Together with the Swansea Institute of Higher Education (SIHE) Cerebra offer a free telephone counselling service for the parents and carers of children with brain injury and other neurological conditions.
Dr Ann Edworthy, a Chartered Psychologist and Principal Lecturer at SIHE, manages the counselling service. Dr Edworthy has extensive practical and research experience in stress counselling. She also is principal researcher in a UK wide survey of stress among parents and carers of brain injured children.
Many parents have told us the simple existence of such a service, of knowing there is someone whom they can talk to when the pressures become overwhelming, will be a huge comfort. It may make the difference between despair and carrying on.
Parent Support's helpline hears first-hand from parents the stress of their caring role. It will be a great benefit to refer those needing help to a trained counsellor.
