Point Percussion

Tapping / stimulation technique used in physical therapy to "percuss" areas of muscle, tendon or acupuncture points.

Two specific methods are used privately in Australia. One is based mainly in Chinese medicine and draws on orthopaedic muscular work, acupressure (‘Tuina’ cupping techniques), sports medicine and Shiatsu for children with cerebral palsy and other conditions (Point Percussion Therapy, PPT); www.members.optusnet.com.au/mengyu/index.html. The other method has recently begun, based mainly in Western physiotherapy and drawing on laser technology, sensory integration and rehabilitation techniques (Laser Point Percussion); http://health-specials.com.

A review of the Australian acupressure method is available in the Research section of Cerebra’s web site.
