Many alternative approaches exist for aspects of cerebral palsy. Some are provided free or at low cost by charitable foundations. In the main, though, families need to raise the funding themselves if they want their child to be assessed for, and then if appropriate treated by one of these methods.
Some of the approaches that are not officially recognised may be so in the future, dependent mostly upon the evidence-base that is being built up for them. The evidence for any approach needs to show most importantly that it is safe, and then that it is effective.
Approaches that are still regarded as “alternative” by many people, but are in established use in parts of the UK publicly-funded health, education or social services, are included in the other section “Recognised approaches in the UK”.
