About Parent Support

Parent Support is the Cerebra information and support service for parents, carers and others involved with any child with a brain related condition (brain injuries, neurological disorders, mental disabilities, developmental problems). Parent Support exists to answer questions and develop services to help improve the lives of these children and their families.

We can give information and advice on any subject related to the care or condition of your child, we research specific questions and can provide any general information you request. Parent Support members have access to a postal lending library of books and multisensory items, receive a quarterly newsletter to keep you up to date with research developments, events and more.

Other services we offer are a grant scheme, factsheets including a guide to claiming disability living allowance and personal portfolio development. There is more information on what we offer below.

We can provide information on any subject related to caring for a disabled child, we have a range of factsheets available and an enquiry form if you have a specific issue you would like us to advise on. We are also offer presentations on our services and have spoken at schools and parent support groups

We try to support parents in many ways including offering a free telephone counselling service, a mutual support network with other parents in the same situation as you, a sleep problem solving service and if you need more personal one on one support filling in forms or going to meetings etc we have regional representatives in certain areas of the UK

A grant scheme to offer direct and practical assistance to improve the quality of life of children and young people affected by neurological conditions.

Please note: All money for the Wills and Trust Voucher Scheme for 2009 has now been used. You are still welcome to send in an application. All complete applications that meet the criteria of the scheme, will be put on a waiting list. If more funds become available, those on the waiting list will be notified first.

A personal portfolio, sometimes called a passport, is a colourful, reader-friendly book designed to help anyone with communication problems tell others about themselves. It is useful when going for respite, having hospital visit, starting a new school, and meeting people for the first time. We offer a service that helps you put a portfolio together for your child
