On 22nd of June a group of dads from Hull and the surrounding area set out on an epic cycle ride from Morecambe beach across the Way of the Roses to Bridlington in aid of three children’s charities.
The 170 mile coast to coast ride took the 18 riders and 2 support members 3 days across some of the toughest hills England has to offer. The weather was extremely unkind but the team battled through.
The dads have something special in common – they are all fathers of children with special needs – and meet up regularly to share experiences and difficulties and help each other with their problems. They have decided as a group to raise money for some of the charities that have helped them over the years.
One of those charities is Cerebra, a national charity supporting children and young people with neurological conditions. Cerebra has helped two of the dads taking part, Adam Smith and David Hoyle, with specialist equipment for their children, making a huge difference to the lives of their families. Adam’s son received his Tomcat trike just days before the event and was able to cycle the last few miles of the ride attached to his Dad’s bike making it ‘the perfect ending to the weekend’.
